Imports- NotARealThreat

Although the changing trend of raw material prices render imports cheaper at times, there is no real threat to the domestic Industry. One major reason is the vast difference in the structure of the fastener industry in India and Abroad. There are more units in South East Asia, producing only few type of fasteners but in large quantities. While in India it is vice versa - few units producing a variety of fasteners in small quantities to meet the requirement of a diversified market. OEMs in India prefer buying fasteners in small quantities at regular intervals. If an OEM decides to import, the orders would have to be made in bulk but this will lead to high inventory costs. Thus, imports does not seem to be a viable proposition.
